Interested in becoming a Docent? Information Desk, Greeter/Ticket Scanner, and Special Event volunteer roles are all options as your foundational step in the pathway to become a trained docent.

Ongoing Volunteer Roles

Special Events/Live! At the Library Volunteer

Special Event/Live! at the Library volunteers support the Library by providing interactive engagement opportunities with the Library's collections, exhibitions, and building, during evening hours (4:30pm-8:00pm) for specified Library events, particularly on Thursday evenings for Live! At the Library.

Greeter/Ticket Scanner

Greeter/Ticket Scanner volunteers support the Library by providing a friendly, hospitable, and helpful welcome to visitors of the Library. This includes utilizing digital ticket scanners to redeem visitor timed entry tickets once they arrive to the Library.

Family Days Volunteer

Family Days Volunteers support the mission of the Library by working with the Informal Learning Office to raise awareness of the incredible breadth of Library collections, foster imagination and inspire diverse families to explore and use Library collections at home.

Information Desk Volunteer

Information Desk Volunteers support the Library by providing critical wayfinding and information to visitors from a series of designated stations throughout the historic Thomas Jefferson Building.
